What is needed for the freight transport sector to meet the climate targets?
How can the freight transport sector transition meet Sweden's and the EU's climate goals? This research project explores several potential scenarios where the targets for 2030, 2040, and 2045 are achieved through a combination of renewable fuels, electrification, and transport efficiency.
This project examines the necessary measures and instruments and analyses their feasibility and risks. What are the development paths towards fossil-free freight transport?
Climate targets require new policies
Fossil-free technologies already enable the transition of freight transport, but progress remains too slow. This project investigates political measures that support the shift to fossil-free solutions, including incentives for renewable fuels, electric trucks, and enhanced charging infrastructure. The goal is to provide a framework identifying the combination of actions needed to accelerate the transition.
What influences the feasibility of the measures?
An essential part of the project is to analyse risks and obstacles to a successful transition. This includes identifying vulnerabilities and risks associated with proposed measures, such as consequences that may impact their acceptance. Risks related to conflicts and disruptions in supply chains will also be assessed.
Collaboration with key stakeholders
The project is conducted in close collaboration with stakeholders who influence and are affected by the transition of freight transport to fossil-free solutions. Through a reference group consisting of 13 participants from industry, academia, and government agencies, we ensure that the results are well-founded and practically applicable. The project also incorporates literature studies and in-house analyses.
