Sustainable sludge handling

Is it longer defensible to spread sewage sludge?

Increased energy recovery from sewage sludge at wastewater treatment plants, recycling of important nutrients to arable land without adverse side effects and contamination risk through unwanted micropollutants, heavy metals, microplastics, etc., as well as trouble-free handling of residues are some of the challenges that require sustainable sludge management.

For many years, we have been working on various parts sustainable sludge management is based on and consists of. This includes various alternative sludge management solutions based on improvements or extensions of existing systems. This comprises both more efficient dewatering techniques, phosphorus recovery, simple processes for increased biogas production, management of micro-contaminants in the sludge, multiresistence, greenhouse gas emissions in biogas production, upgrading and sludge storage/dispersion.

Extensive treatment with hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), drying, pyrolysis, thermal treatment, etc. is included. All with a holistic system perspective to ensure resource-efficient implementation of sludge management in society.

We have both mobile and stationary digester pilots of various sizes as well as an anaerobic treatment line (UASB).
